Default Can't get to square one after installation

I'm using v1.3.8a/v1/3/8 that I downloaded yesterday into a directory called "shop". I have added no templates and done nothing.

How do I get any sort of default template to come up in my browser? How do I get anything at all to happen?

I've tried moving the includes/templates/classic and includes/templates/template_default directories to the 'shop' directory so you have /shop/classic and /shop/template_default. I've moved template_info.php to the 'shop' directory so I have /shop/template_info.php. (I've read that you have to move these files/folders to that location to make it work???)

    1. Leaving the template_info.php file where it was originally inside /includes gets an access denied error due to server configuration.

    2. Using /shop/template_info.php gets a blank screen.

    3. /shop/index.php gets Fatal error: Call to undefined function zen_check_url_get_terms() in /public_html/shop/index.php on line 30

    4. The Admin screen for Tools|Template Selection has 'Classic Contemporary Green' as the only drop down option.

After 2 days of frustration, the bottom line here is that something heralded as easy to install, configure, and use is completely unfathomable. There must be some simple step in the installation and configuration that is SO simple that nobody has put it in the instructions. Any suggestions appreciated.

If you originally installed Zencart into the 'shop' directory, those template folders should have already been there - not in the root, but in /shop/includes/templates/. Each template has a template_info.php file in the main directory for that template (includes/templates/classic, for example). That file being there tells admin that the template exists.

If you've installed things successfully, and you're getting an error or blank page when you point your browser to the /shop directory, you may have a corrupted file.

I'd start over, if I were you. Does your host offer a control panel like CPanel? If so, when I install Zencart, I upload the Zencart zip file to the server, and use CPanel's File Manager to extract the files - no corrupted files, and much faster.

Thank you! I was URLing to a specific php file, rather than simply to /SHOP.

I'm using version 1.3.8 that I downloaded yesterday, have the same problem in that template 'theme220' is not showing up in the template list (only classic is) and the posted solution hasn't helped me so far. Below is the path where I have uploaded the template 'theme220' files to. The template_info.php file is in a few subdirectories within theme220. Should I move it somewhere else so admin knows the theme220 template exists? I followed the install instructions and don't understand why it isn't working.

    Directory Tree: root /healthybargains.net /includes /templates /theme220

    Thank you.

The template_info.php file needs to be in the main template folder (includes/templates/theme220) for admin to see it. I don't know if the rest of the files/folders are in the right place.

You have some very important security stuff to do, though, before you worry about a template.

I took care of the security stuff; I knew it was important I just got hung up on the template because it was the last part of the installation....thank you, your reply helped with the template issue.
