Default Help - Installing ThemeStock Template

I followed directions on their website page (themestock.com) - I backed up my template-default and english languages directories.

Their instructions state to over-write those two directories and then go into admin and change the template. What I noticed are there are a lot more files in my original directories then whey they supplied in their new template - which resulted in several error message in updating the template.

When I put the original directories back in place and kept the new template settings, I do get the front page, but no sideboxes. I just switched everything back to the Classic Contemporary Green. There must be something I've missed here.

Should I just copy the new templates files into the old directories and try to merge everything together?

I see template monster has a files called ZENCART_FULL.SQL to help implement the changeover - but themestock does not.

I'm going to send an email to themestock support, but was hoping to get clarification on the proper way to add one of these third party templates.

to install new template , there is no overwrite , but you have override ..

    here is a tutorial
    https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=230

you should not copy new template in template_default nor merge them . .

    Yes - read that document.

Let me see if I can get this right.

I would use the template override system to install a new third part template (like the one I got from themestock.com).

I upload the new template directory into the templates directory like this:

    /domain/store/includes/templates/TS-KidSize (new template)

This new directory has the following directories:

    /common
    /css
    /images
    /modules
    /sideboxes
    /templates
    template_info.php

But I still have the new template's directory which was included in their file called template_default (which I was instructed to upload and overwrite). Where I get lost is that the install instructions say to overwrite template-default and english languages directories. If I did that, then those original files I need to run the cart would not be there any longer (if I'm understanding correctly).

If I'm not supposed to overwrite the original template_default directory, where do I put this directory (and it's new files) - in with the templates new directory (TS-KidSize)? It looks like the new directory contains the structure:

    template_default/buttons/english/(bunch of button images).

Do I also create a new directory for the new template language files:

    /domain/store/includes/languages/TS-KidSize/english

And put the new template language files there?

After I change the template in admin, the override system will see and use the new files for the new template, and also use the files in the original default_template directory and the original language/english directory for features, content and design carried over from the base zen cart engine (the base I had when Classic Contemporary Green was installed), but just not the old template design.

Example: One of the error messages I received was concerning the meta_tags.php file (which is not in the new language file). But by using the override system, the file would be properly accessed in the original language directory when new template is properly installed (along with the proper setup location of the new directories and their files).

Is that basically correct? If so, I guess I just need to know where to put that new template_default directory and it's files that came with the new template.

Note: I actually set everything up as above except I did nothing with the new template_default directory. I see the front page (with a couple of bad spaces in the header image - don't know why), can navigate to new products, my account, shopping cart and contact us (the links that were in the header), but have not side boxes for categories, etc. I also see languages and currencies at the top of the header page. I had previously turned these boxes off in the old template, but I guess I have to turn them off again in the new template?

    Update:

I see none of my boxes were turned on in admin - so now they are working.

I may have an issue with the css file displaying the correct font colors based on the new template - looking into.

Also, seems when I click any of the header links, all is fine, but when I click on a category, the entire page shifts to the right a bit - and stays at that shifted location until one of the main links at the top of the page are clicked again. Maybe the index.php file?

Seems like I'm starting to understand a bit more, but I can't help feel that the site is using some old files or settings somewhere resulting in a glitch in the header image layout and the css layout.

    Update:

So far I've only been able to get the categories and the shopping cart boxes to appear using admin setting.

Not sure why other boxes don't appear when turned on.

If the template is using the template_default folders, it's VERY poorly designed. Those folders come with every update/upgrade of Zen Cart and will be overwritten each and every time you upgrade/update. I'd drop that template and find another. Free Zen Cart templates can be seen at http://(sorry, site offline)/.

Well, I too have couple of templates from themestock which I got from a friend because he couldn't use them. He has the same problem as I do and that is whenever I apply a template and reset all the boxes, I get a blank index page. Has anyone any ideas if this problem can be fixed, because the templates are pretty useless atm.

You need to talk to the place that designed the templates.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.
