Idea or Suggestion Evaluating Zen Cart for a client

I am in the process of evaluating several open source shopping carts and so far it seems to be the leading candidate.

However one of the requirements is that it supports GOOGLE CHECKOUT.

My understanding is that ZEN CART currently doesn't support GOOGLE CHECKOUT.

Any idea when ZEN CART is going to support GOOGLE CHECKOUT?

    TIA,
    Jen

There is a module, but it is not supported by project. Use it at your own risk.

Any plans to support it in the future? or write your own module from scratch?

It's not on the published development roadmap, and seems unlikely. I suspect that the plans to re-write the checkout and Admin would get higher priority. Most payment modules, including Google Checkout, are donated and maintained by community members.

What is the re-write the checkout and Admin? Does that mean re-writing ZEN CART from scratch?

From what I read so far, the GOOGLE CHECKOUT module for ZEN CART is not maintained AT ALL. Does that mean that I have to give up ZEN CART?

No. It means that the version after the upcoming 2.0 will concentrate on the checkout process and the admin function.

Only you can answer that. Some people have problems with that user-contributed module, some use it successfully. If maintenance and support for the mod by the Zencart developers is a litmus test for you, then ...

If you decide to give Zencart a chance, maybe you could take over the support for that mod, as a way of giving back .

Isn't the GC module provided by and maintained by Google?

    OK, thanks Misty.

For the original poster, I've used it and had no probs that a little digging (in these forums) couldn't fix. Works very well IMHO.
