Zencart and Multisite for creating a mall

This is about a proposed site that would operate like a "mall". Looking around it looks like Zencart with the Multisite module might do most or all of what I want. Basically, I am going to create a niche site then invite certain merchants to sell related wares there. Each seller must have their own merchant account. I would collect revenue based on actual sale.

This could be done by simply setting up a Zencart for each store owner but it looks like multisite would make it easier. I would be overall admin. so I have access to each store. Each merchant would only have access to their own store. I would like to control the look and feel so hopefully I could restrict some of the page layout access but this is not super critical.

There would be some split from each sale, either a flat dollar amount or percent. The most desirable would be a split that could automatically be charged to the store owner's merchant account periodically although it could be done as a part of each sale. However, as long as the amount could be accumulated in Zencart, the billing could be handled in some other way.

I'm pretty sure I could do this with just multiple Zencart installs. Would most of it possible in Zencart with Mutlsite?

I have not used multisite mod, but I think that it will do a lot of what you are asking for.

Blindside wrote a "Sales Report" mod, but I have no idea if or how it would interface with multisite. If it does, then it may resolve your payment tracking requirements too.

My advice:

Set up zencart with multisite mod and run a couple of test "sites". Perform things as you would require for a live version. See if it does what you want.

If it does, go live with it.

Last I looked, multi-site-mod does NOT use multiple installs of Zen Cart. Just a lot of smoke-n-mirrors to make one shop seem like many.
