Different shipping methods for different products?

I have a client that has a portion of his inventory dropshipped by a business collegue ... using that person's FEDEX account (a business arrangement).

However, the remaining inventory needs to be done via another shipping method, UPS I believe.

Can this be done?

I've looked at the threads concerning cloning ... but don't think I can do such since I'm working with Live Rates.

So, can I assign certain products to only have certain shipping choices?

What happens when the order has part of the products for the dropshipping and part of the products for the regular shipping?

That is why I am asking how to do this.

We have to keep the used office chairs using the business partner's Fedex account, who is shipping the chairs, because he has special rates with Fedex.

However, the new office chairs are coming from another vendor altogether, and there is no special rates, and it will be UPS, I believe.

I wish, when we are creating a product, we can use radio buttons or something to assign which shipping methods can be used for the products. I know there was a mod like this for Oscommerce, as I used it for a time. It's great when you have two or three situations like this. After awhile, I could not use it for my store, because I had 9 vendors, each had their own shipping method, and that shipping mod wasn't viable then.

Zen Cart doesn't have anything built in for using multiple shipping methods on the same order ...

You would have to write a custom shipping module to manage this when you have a mixed cart ...

You could customize the shipping modules to only run when from one vendor or category etc. where you can test the cart contents to see if it is all for one vendor or the other and then enable or disable the shipping methods based on the results ...

The $this->enabled when true, lets the shipping module run ...

The $this->enabled when false, disables or hides the shipping module ...
