Cannot Switch Templates

I can see the templates are installed from admin panel, however, after I click on edit, add the sideboxes and refresh, It doesn't switch to the specified template. It still stays the classic green template. When installing the new templates, do you still need to make a custom template folder or something? I have been stuck on this for two days now. Don't understand why it shows installed but wont let me switch to another template. I installed the template to the public_html directory. Can somebody help me overcome this so I can move on?? Thanks.

admin -> tools -> template selection

Click the edit button

select your template from the dropdown menu

click the update button

admin -> tools -> layout boxes controller

scroll to the bottom of the page and click the reset button.

I have done this already. Template shows in admin panel, I go up to edit, click the template I want, then I go to tools, click the layout boxes controller, then click reset and the template does not change. I need some other suggestions on why this is happening. Someone help please!

Which template? Some are uploaded to the root of your site, and some to the templates directory (although if you're seeing the template in admin, at least the template_info.php file is in the right place).

May we see a link to your site?

I figured out my problem. Wasn't uploading to the root.

Most templates, especially the free ones, have, inside the zip file, a folder named 'includes'. This folder contains all the folders and files needed for the template in the proper directory order. All you need to do is drag that 'includes' folder to the root (top directory) of your Zencart installation, and the template files will fall where they need to. You do not drag that folder to the /templates folder.

Of course, if you have a template from Template Monster, these instructions may not apply.
