Category not turning off

In the admin panel I attempt to turn off the videos and DVD category on my site (it has over 12k videos and 20+ sub cats)

Problem is it turns off and shows that in the database but is not reflected in the catorgies section of the admin panel. The category still shows on the main page as well but you cant access it.

any ideas?

Might try installing the "Hide Categories" mod found HERE.

If all this is happening in the Admin this could be a time out issue or you are not waiting long enough ...

NOTE: Turning off a category stops display of a category in the Catalog ... it does not stop display of a Category in the Admin ...
