Default Auth Only or Final Sale

I made the switch from PayPal IPN to PayPal Express Check out on Zen Car 1.3.8a , but am not sure which "Payment Action" to choose or what they mean.

Can someone help explain what Auth Only or Final Sale means and how they work?

I noticed during purchase testing with Final Sale selected if I paid via a credit card through my PayPal account the sales is recorded right away in my PayPal transactions for both my payee account and the receiving accout, but if I pay via a credit card and not through PayPal it's still not showing up even after 4 hours. Does it take a while for the credit card company to process the transaction?

And with Auth Only selected no matter which way I pay there is still a wait for the sales to show up in PayPal transactions and I haven't seen them show up yet.

Any help explaining this to me would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Just discovered what Auth Only means I think. Some showed up in my PayPal transactions and it allows me to choose to capture or void the payment.

Still not sure why the Final Sale option with paying via a CC and not through PayPal is still not showing under my PayPal transactions...

If you're referring to transactions handled by the "offline credit card module", then you're *never* going to get the money unless you manually take the credit card number supplied by the customer and process it through your merchant account. If you don't have a merchant account, then you would be advised to turn that module off since it's useless to you.

    Hi DrByte,

Thank you for helping, but I only have PayPal Express on. I meant to say that a transaction through PayPal Express, but opting to enter CC information, etc. on the left side of the screen and not logging in to use a PayPal account.

I switched today from PayPal Standard IPN to PayPal Express, because yesterday I had notification from PayPal of a payment, but the order didn't show in Zen Cart even after several hours. I then did a test purchase myself and it "pushed' the other through and the order # for the first purchase was greater than my test purchase order #.

This morning I had another notification of PayPal payment, so I tried a test purchase again, but it didn't do anything and that one didn't show in Zen Cart either.

I had been using PayPal Standard IPN for over a year without any of these problems.

Reading through the forums I saw PayPal Express might take care of these delays with IPN processing, so I switched.

Now I'm getting the problems I mentioned above with just using PayPal Express.

Transactions made with Express Checkout are immediate. That is, you will immediately see the order in your Zen Cart admin, and you will see the transaction in your PayPal account.
If you did a transaction that's not showing on PayPal, then you didn't complete the payment at PayPal.

It has nothing to do with "Final Sale" or "Auth Only" -- both situations result in an order being logged in your store. If you've used AuthOnly, you'll still see the transaction in your PayPal account, but you'll have to go and Capture the payment before the funds move from the customer to you.

Thank you again for the reply. I'm not sure what is going on then with my Express Checkout. I tried using it again and opted to enter CC info directly instead of paying through my PayPal account. Got all the notifications from Zen Cart, but none from PayPal and nothing in PayPal transactions.

Not sure what is wrong. Would like customers to be able to pay using a CC and not have to create a PayPal account.

Maybe I'll try an uninstall and reinstall?

I know this is an older thread, but I am having the exact same issue, and do not see that it is resolved here.

I am only using Paypal express, and when a customer pays with their Credit card without creating a Paypal account, I receive a New Order email from my store and customer info is logged, however I do not receive any funds in my Paypal account.

Not sure how come I am getting the order form from my store when no funds are being put into paypal.

PLEASE HELP!!! ALready lost some orders because of this issue!!

tiltem, you *already* have another thread dedicated to that particular question, which is not at all the same as the title topic of *this* one.
