Actually taking payments is confusing

I called Authorize.net and they said in order to take payments I had to put the Transaction API key and Password and MD5 hash key in to Payment modules under SIM.

Ok so I did that, and I figured out how to get products and categories, and I tried out the payment.

According to Zen Cart, now about a week later the process is pending. According to Authorize, nothing ever happened. What is the deal here?


What does it mean to capture, authorize, or what not? Isn't this just one automated system where the customer puts in the info and does the transaction and it is done?

I am not storing information on my servers intentionally. All I want to do is collect the money, what is so hard about this?

I think the AIM module is preferred.

As far as the 'Pending', you have to change that manually from whatever you set as the default.

If your system shows pending, but authnet dosnt have a clue,
make sure that you do not have the default credit card module turned on

1. *Where* EXACTLY are you looking when you say "the process is pending"? If you're looking in the list of payment modules, that word "pending" refers to a setting, not the actual condition of any given transaction.

2. When you look at the actual order in your store, in the left column there is an indication of which payment module was used. What module does it say? If it says "credit_card" or "cc" then the transaction was processed using the offline credit card module, which, as Merlin mentioned, means the order was never handled by the live authnet gateway, but rather by the offline module that's intended for collecting numbers that you process through a swipe terminal. So, turn that module off by clicking on it in Admin->Modules->Payment, and then click Remove to remove it from being active.

The only payment modules you should have active are the ones you're actually using. Otherwise you create confusion for yourself and your customers.
If you ever intend to allow checkout of "free" carts ($0 products), leave the FreeCharger module enabled.

3. Then do an actual transaction using the authnet module. Check that it shows up in your authnet account.
