MAP Wisdom Needed!

Hi Gang -

I have the MAP module (Add to cart to see price) installed on my ZC which works beautifully, but my whole seller keeps getting complaints from other retailers about the fact that I sell at way lower price.

While I can argue that I really don't have technicaly a price that's advertised, I don't want to become a pain in the community so I am in search of new methods that will appease the other retailer Gods.

I have this idea but I am also very curious what others do. I am trying to minimize the numbers of clicks and steps on both the client and my side as well. Here's an idea that popped up and I wonder if any of the existing mods can work here:

1. Customer lands on the product page, where instead of price, there's a simple email field (for the customer's email) and a 'Request Pricing' button.

2. The system automatically sends an email to the submitted address with a list of that particular product (or with a whole list of the products, etc.)

3. From here, an elegant way would be to have a link in that email similar with the "Add To Cart", that will bring them to an identical product page that's virtually hidden from the eyes of the vultures, from where the customer can check out in peace.

Does that make any sense? I am very interested to have this done, I have minimal php knowledge but I can get tweaks here and there.

This may be a bad suggestion, but why not raise your prices so they are closer to the competition? Then you wouldn't have to deal with the complaints and it would put a few extra bucks in your pocket? If you are still the lowest price you will still get the sales :)

Thanks, Kim - but that's exactly the issue because the majority of them are advertising at exactly MAP so, really there isn't any flexibility left.

Also tried the free shipping thing also - But I am looking more to a flexible way.
