Replace Email login with Username?

I wonder if it's possible to replace Email adress at logon with Username, lot of our customers write their mail adress and their mail adress password, and they are surprised that they can't get in.

I think my only solution is to find a way out. Nobody want's to lose customers due to mistake like that.

Are you using the stacked login page or the split login page?

No, not yet, I think I'll wait for zencart 2, if it takes to much time, I will look for other solution, I'm not experimented enought to create a module like that....

it shlould not be that complicated. You may start by using the customer_nick field in the database. Probably make few changes in include/template/template_name/template/tpl_login_default.php (form)
includes/modules/pages/login/header.php (POST processing)
and probably for creating accounts in, to mandate nickname to be used :
includes/modules/pages/create_account/header.php
include/template/template_name/template/tpl_create_account_default.php

as a matter of fact I am thinkin about doing that. I am trying to use Gigya plugin in zencart. All those social network as based upon login and email is rarely provided by the API (at least Gigya), if it does not work I will use a name rather than emails. My main concern is security though
