Confirmation emails suddenly stopped working

I noticed this morning that I am not getting any order confirmation emails. I was also contacted by a customer this morning and they said they never got a confirmation email for an order they placed on this past Sunday.

I haven't done anything to the website so I'm guessing it is some kind of server issue? How can I trouble shoot this?

I am experiencing the same issue. I have recently changed servers but have the same server set up. Once the site was moved, Registration confirmation emails and order confirmation emails stopped working.

Any word on what might be going on?

Zen: 1.3.8a with patches installed up to Jun 28, 2009

I found I had to make sure that ADMIN > CONFIGURATION > E-Mail options : Emails must send from known domain?" is no if my email address is using a different domain. I believe one of the settings on this config page is where your problem may be. Make to set them all up properly.

I am also having this problem with a client's website. The order emails had stopped coming through for a few days and then began working again for a month and have now stopped again. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

My website is new. It only has me testing it at the moment but the customer, me isn't receiving the confirmation email either. It is driving me crazy because I need to open the store but I don't really want to do it until this is working properly. Can anyone help? I tried changing the 'emails sent from known domain' bit to 'no' but that didn't fix the problem.

I have exactly the same problem and I have contacted my hosting company and checked the settings with them but still no luck.

I am having the same problem. No order emails are coming through to admin email.

Other shopping carts on same server working fine.
Linux, managed server, 1&1 hosting
Have tried using sendmail, php, and smtpauth (with SMTP authentication details inserted).

Still no go.

Well, here's my first post on the forum ... I had the same problem with emails suddenly not working. I installed the email archiving tool mentioned previously ... then I went and looked at the archive and found "suspicious" information in the text of the email that was archived! (Also look in configuration>my store>store name to see if there's anything suspicious ... that's another big hint.)

So, I downloaded and installed the security patch ... cleaned up the "weird" php files in the images folder (read threads noted above) ... and reset the store name in admin ...

Then, for good measure, followed all of the security steps suggested here:

THANKS to all the posters on the forum ... after many, many hours of trying to figure things out on my own, the "clues" from the email archiving and info found on the forum led to getting things working again. (Knock wood!)

I'm posting this HERE in hopes that it will help some people who, like myself, recognized an EMAIL problem but weren't aware of the SECURITY issues and clean-up required.

(PS -- I've duplicated this post from a similar "email stopped" thread, because I think this may be useful. Note that the dates people are posting the problems coincide with dates in the hacking threads marked above.)
