Paypal IPN and Gift Cert. issue

Hi, I was testing a gift certificate and going through paypal with IPN standard, upon being returned to the site from paypal I was greeted with this page and message:

Step 2 of 3 - Payment Information
Error It appears that the amount you have tried to apply and your Gift Certificate balance do not match. Please try again.

Everything was entered correctly and the order did in fact go thru, complete, and the user account was able to download the order. so it 'seems' that its just a rogue error message.. anyone one else know of this? and how to fix it?

The store I support is having the same issue. We have already applied the fix for tax calculation so I don't think it's related.
