Delivery information - continue checkout problem

A problem has suddenly appeared that wasn't there a few days ago so I must have done something but can't think what.

I can no longer move further than stage one of the three stages of the payment procedure (delivery information). When I click on the 'Continue Checkout' button it simply reloads the same page again (ie index.php?main_page=checkout_shipping).

Can someone tell me what might cause this looping to occur?

I have configured the site to only accept paypal payments.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Bob

Solved it. I had somehow turned off shipping charges. I set them back on and hey presto.

I'm having exactly the same problem, so many menu choices, I can't figure out where I would have turned off shipping, so I can see if that will fix the problem for me too. What is the menu path to change that?

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

Following up on my post a few minutes ago, I found the path to change the shipping value, and it does seem to control whether the "continue checkout" button works or not.

I thought it would be in "Configuration->Shipping/Packaging", but it's not there, it's in "Modules->Shipping", there I had to change the value of the module, "FREE SHIPPING". For me the value, "Enable Free Shipping" MUST be set to TRUE for the "continue checkout" button to work. If I turn it off then the "continue checkout" button does not work. Set the value back to ture, and voila, it works!

The store I'm setting up primarily sells courses, and I don't have a need for shipping (in fact, it can be confusing to the user during check out and the follow up e-mail.)

Is there a way to disable the module without breaking the checkout process? If changing this setting is supposed to break the checkout process, there should be a warning somewhere before the administrator accidentally breaks the checkout process with a small configuration change.

Just a follow up to my last post - any suggestions on how to configure the shipping module when shipping charges are not relevant to the purchase?

I'm using ZenCart to help folks sign up for spaces in a courses offered by a non-profit, and so the "FREE SHIPPING" is confusing to the folks signing up.

Would making all of your courses Virtual Products YES help?

Just to add my experience here for the benefit of others:

    Using Zencart 1.3.7

I had the same problem, i.e. stuck at step 1 and not able to jump to Step 2.

I had installed only one shipping module: Free Shipping

But the product that I was trying to buy was mistakenly marked as "No, Normal Shipping Rules" in the product setup process.

So when I wanted to proceed to step 2, the script was not happy with the fact that I only had the free shipping module installed, yet this product required a shipping calculation...that's a contradiction. So it would just send me back to Step 1 again and again, i.e. I was stuck at Step 1.

Solution: Edited the product in question to change shipping type to "Yes, Always Free Shipping". That totally solved the problem right away.

Hope that helps someone else in this same situation.

There is a handy dandy setting in the Catalog ... Product Types ... on each of the Product Types when you hit the Edit Layout button ...
Product Free Shipping Default Status - Normal Shipping Rules - When adding new products?
What should the Default Free Shipping status be when adding new products?
    Yes, Always Free Shipping ON
    No, Always Free Shipping OFF
    Special, Product/Download Requires Shipping

I've been having the same problem, and I've just worked out from reading this that it is ever since I loaded "Free shipping for their first order".

So if all stock is normally charged for shipping, how do I get around this to give them free shipping for their first order.... and free shipping on all orders over $300???
