I think your a bit confused here on what to do.

The override template system is used for changing the look of your website. Ie, colour, font, layout (Though layout is not easy) etc..

In regards to creating a specials section etc.. this is an area already created in Zen cart and can works only when you put products on special.


Login to your Zen cart admin.

Got o Catalog > Categories/products

Go to one of your products you wish to put on special.

Don;t click on it. Look the right hand side of it and you will see a little Green circle with dollar sign in it. Click on that.

Then a page will open. You will see an option Special Price Info: install

Click on that.

Then go through the steps.. you should be ok there.

Once you have completed these steps a Specials text link will be created products menu.

Give it a try and you will see what I mean.
