    Default Site is Super Slow

My site (www.buy-swimwear.com) is running super slowly. I only have about 60 products, and each one has about 6-8 attributes (in two name sets) attached to it. My photos aren't huge or anything, and I'm only running two modules (Module Manager and Advanced X-Sell). I also made sure that my background images are all small and tiled...

Can anyone tell me what could be causing this issue? I alerted my hosting company (FatCow), and they said they fixed something and it should be working. It's still slow...sometimes not even loading.

I should also note that a few days ago I was getting a ton of database memory errors; in response to that, FatCow raised my sql memory limit to 64MB. I haven't had this issue since.

    YIKES! The page is huge!

Object type Size (bytes) Download @ 56K (seconds) Download @ T1 (seconds)
    HTML: 20637 4.31 0.31
    HTML Images: 1457891 294.16 11.32
    CSS Images: 231626 46.56 1.63
    Total Images: 1689517 340.72 12.95

You need to optimize those images.

Wow, okay, thanks for your quick response! Will you show me a thread to help me get started in doing this? I'm assuming it's not as simple as just making the images smaller. I guess I need to create thumbnails and such for the product listings pages? And then link to the large files from the actual product info pages? thanks!

Grab the Image Handler 2 module from the downloads section - it will do a lot of that work for you

install firefox > install the yslow addon package > go to your site and in the bottom right of your browser click on the YSlow icon, run test and work the list off.

The physical dimensions of the image will not optimize the file size. If you are using high resolution images, you need to re-save them as lower resolution (72 - 96 DPI) and use your image editor's "save for web" functionality. Photos should be saved a JPEG or jpg and line art as gif.
