    Default Reset customer passwords

I have a few customers that registered on my site and forgot their passwords. I have searched through the Admin settings but I can't find anything to allow me to reset my customers password to a default. Can someone please help me?

There is no such facility built in at the present time. However, customers can easily generate a new password by clicking on the forgotten password link on the log in screen.

    Kuroi is correct.

But there is a plug in that allows you (admin) to place orders on behalf of the customer. By using this you can then access their settings and thus change the password.

    I am using ZC
    Zen Cart 1.3.8a
    Database Patch Level: 1.3.8
    v1.3.8 [2008-11-18 00:26:28] (Fresh Installation)
    v1.3.8 [2008-11-18 00:26:28] (Fresh Installation)

I just installed Encrypted Master Password

    Copyright 2006 - 2007 Dennis Sayer
    Encrypted Master Password v 1.1
A core file replacement for Zen Cart v1.3.7

which at the bottom of the read me says
    v 1.2 (12/01/2007)
    * Added new code that appeared with Zen Cart 1.3.8

It allows me to login as the member, however to change their password I need their original password. they can't find their password or forgot it and did the email them a new password buy my ZC didn't email them one, I even changed their email address to one of mine and did the forgot password and the site didn't email me one either.

Any help would be appreciated on changing customer passwords for them so A. I don't lose a customer and B. I don't have to delete their entire profile and purchase history so they can create a new profile.

    Thanks

you can reset the password via the database. These passwords are encrypted with an md5 hash so you will need to use a generator such as in the following link:

    http://www.miraclesalad.com/webtools/md5.php

I have never needed to do this with zen but have done it with joomla. The master password works for me- not sure why it doesn't work for you.

Do you clients get any emails at all, eg. the welcome email???

If not then check the settings in Admin>email options

PLEASE back up your database first!!!

imaginarynumber is incorrect. This is not joomla.

Zen Cart passwords are not encrypted with md5 hash.
They are encrypted with MD5+SALT, which means the passwords are entirely different, and much more secure.

As for resetting customer passwords from the admin side, that's a feature that's been added to Zen Cart v2.0

    post 7 might help

Rather than deleting the cookies (as suggested in the thread above) I use a number of different browsers, eg firefox for all admin stuff, opera for logging in as customer one, chrome as customer 2 and so forth- you can set the extra browsers to auto delete cookies.

Let us know if you are successfull and apologies for the feck up re password encryption

here's a non-techie quick fix I did that is helpful for a forgotten password herre & there with retrieval issues-
Under the customers section in the admin I changed the email to my email (one that I have never used in the cart before), then requested a new one sent to my address, logged in with the temp password & changed the email back to the customers. Now the customer can log in with their email & temp password & change it to whatever they like.

    hope that helps.....
