Default Can I add shipping costs to a download?

    Hello,

    I have a unique problem.
I run a zen store for a record company. We are offering a "pre-order" special for a new CD release.

    The premise is this:
If you order and pay for a CD (which we will ship to you in a few weeks), you get a free exclusive MP3 Download of an unreleased song right now.

Since I can't for the life of me figure out how to include a free download with the purchase of a single item (and if anyone knows, I'd love to find out the answer), I would like the CD itself to be the download. Meaning, the MP3 Product would be called "Pre-release Special". When someone buys it for $9.99, it notifies us that someone has pre-ordered the album, and they will still get the free MP3 because I have set up the product attribute for the item.

The problem is that I need to also charge shipping. Once I set the download attribute, it knows the product is digital and doesn't charge shipping. Is there a way to over-ride this?

Or can anyone think of a better way to do what I'm trying to do?

    Thanks!

    Bob

Because the download is an attribute thing try adding the DL attribute to the product
It is similar to the demo products options to receive the disks and a download combined

    Thanks for the quick reply,

I guess I still don't understand - I installed my Zen Cart with Fantastico, and it came with no demo products!
Can you explain to me how to set up a combination of products? A CD and a Download which can be purchased together? When I add the download attribute to any product, it renders the shipping costs moot.
I'm able to set up a "Buy a CD, get a download free", but you'd also have to add the individual MP3 to your cart. I do not want to do this, because the MP3 shouldn't be available for individual purchase on the site.
I'm hoping there's a way to buy a CD, and upon checkout have the download button available.

Sorry if this is simple; I just can't figure it out!

Ah, I figured it out. Never mind! I didn't realize the combo product option existed. That made my life much easier!!!

For those who might come across this thread - if you install Zencart manually, rather than through the various control panel installers like Fantastico, you have the option of installing demo products which demonstrate many Zencart options and possibilities. Highly recommended for Zencart newcomers, and I still have a 'demo' site installed. You're never too old or too experienced to learn something.
