Category Listing Layout Modification

As is, I do not like how the product layout setup is for the shop, seen here. Instead of having the categories displayed as they are, I would like a two-column setup with the category image displayed large on the left and the columns displayed in a list fashion on the right hand column, like so:



Is this possible and if so, can someone guide me in the right direction on which files to edit and possibly some sample code if it's going to be tricky?

Ever solved? Now that I have too many sub-cats I'd like to change the layout and then add the category text below.

I'd appreciate any insight (I'm dangerous on my own with css)

It's doable, but I can't take the time to look at it right now - have a big job overdue. It will require some PHP as well as stylesheet work. I'll get back later.
