I've been doing a lot of research into adding fields during the create account process. To me it seems quite cumbersome and time consuming (http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showth...create+account)

The easy alternative seems to be TheOracle's mod (http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=587), but the disclaimer saying not to use it on a commercial site scares me.

1. Why can't I just collect additional infomation as attributes to the product? We aren't expecting repeat business (one off purchase) so there is no need to help customers avoid inputting the same info on every sale (e.g Mobile Phone number, business number, etc)

What are the pros and cons about this approach? I'm sure it's been discussed numerous times but I can't find the debate using the forum search tool.


2. This actually will make it a lot easier to integrate the cart with a CRM system (if all pertinent sales information eg. customer details, order details, attribute details, etc. are included as attributes and thus are recorded in the 'orders_products_attributes' table). If I make an attribute for first and last name, is there a way to fill it in based on the name used to create the account? That way there is no extra hassle for the customer. What do you think?
