Question about Downloadable PDF files

I understand how to setup the sale of Downloadable PDF files.

Within the Attributes Controller ... where you type in the file's name, there is two options to set.

Expiry days (0=unlimited)
Maximum Download Count

Now, I understand Expiry days to be that John Doe has x amount of days to download his newly purchased pdf file. If I set it to 1, then he has 24 hours. Is this correct?

Now, it's the 2nd option that is not quite worded right.
Does this mean the total number of downloads period? Similar to how many is in inventory? Or does it mean how many times one customer can attempt to download the product?

Basically, we want it set that a customer has 24 hours to download his newly purchased PDF file ... and he can only do it once. If he attempts to go back and try to download it again, he gets an error message (or some other form of a block).

If I set Expiry days to 1 and Maximum Download Count to 1 ... does that achieve what we want?

Yes, but you need to know your customers...

Many times additional attempts are required for many reasons
file size - times out
download interuption

It is your call but having more than one attempt usually keeps them happy not having to request another and your management at a minimum not having to attend to insuring that your customers receive their purchases

I agree with you on that one. But this is for a client and they are adamant that people won't be able to do multiple downloads - i.e., send the download link to a buddy for them to download. Which is odd, because the customer can just send the file to his buddy ... *grins*

Thank you for letting me know I was on track with my thinking about those settings.
