Default Moving from a homebrew site to Zen Cart

    Hi all,

Sorry if this is a double post, but I've searched the archives and all I can find is info for people moving from OSC to Zen Cart.

I'm looking at moving from a homebrew site built in the mid 90s to Zen Cart in rather short order. Before I do so, I want to make sure I'm not jumping into more problems than I'm leaving.

I guess what I'd like to know is what have been your individual experiences with Zen Cart? How hard has it been to, say, show 'in stock' rather than 5 in stock, and make little code modifications like that? It seems like the support is top-notch as every time I google something, the first answer that pops up is the right one.

What challenges have people run into? Is it difficult to get the checkout to talk to a different merchant accounts than the ones which are supported?

Again, sorry if it's a double post (because it seems like a common question), but would like to hear about your experiences.

    Nathan

Obviously, it would depend on your programming skill level. I don't program at all, so I rely on the available mods to do the things I want to do that aren't in the core code.

There are a lot of payment modules available other than the ones built in. Personally, I chose my payment processor because they were supported in Zencart. I haven't seen one that offers advantages over the others sufficient to make me want to try to write (or have written) a new mod.

Since Zencart is pretty easy to install and configure, I'd suggest you install it in a subdirectory of your site and give it a try.

My experience with Zencart has been all positive, and, as you mentioned, this is the best support forum on the Web, bar none.

Thanks for your quick reply, Steve.

I've been doing some testing with Zencart and even got somebody to import my database, and it seems like a very clean and straightforward program... well-built.

I as well have no programming experience but have done some custom work and got the front end to look half decent.

I hope to go forward with this thing as soon as possible. Great professional results, regardless of the price.
