problem with the patch and admin

first off everything worked prior to today...even earlier I was able to access admin to issue a gift certificate.

Just now I went to admin/entered username/password and it said the info was wrong.

I had to remove the patch...I have even replaced the output file with a new one from my files since it was never altered before.

Is this patch and my SSL not playing nice together?

I forgot I have cart1.3.8

just letting you know....I removed all files, went into database and ran repair function then left it alone for a few days....

reuploaded the files and now it behaves right...we can log back into admin, gremlin went to look for another apartment to live in.
