Default Dedicated Server questions about Mailman and IMAP email

    Hello,

I have searched the forums for about an hour now and have not found the answer to my question... so here goes.. 2 part question.

I have a dedicated server and on it is the service mailman. Do I need this service for emails to be able to be sent out by zencart?

I would also like to turn of POP on my server and only use imap. Do I need POP running or can I configure zencart to use imap?

No you do not need mailman to send emails from ZC,
actually unless your actually using it I would kill it entirely,

as for sending emails out from ZC, remember that ZC is a cart and not a mail platform, it dosnt throttle at all

Thank you for the answer. That is my exactly what I wanted to do.

As far as the second part of your statement, I dont understand what you mean by throttle at all.

So if I disable POP3 on my server the emails will still go out correctly?

    mailman is not pop3
but yes mail will go out from ZC just fine,
    it uses sendmail or phpmail

    and throttling

means that alot of servers are set to not allow more than x number of emails per hour to be sent....

a throttle lets you control the number of emails sent per Hr...

this would only be needed if you were using the mass mail feature,

    Thank you so much Merlin..

I went and completely disabled the mailman service and now i will do the same for the POP3D and POP3DSSL services..

    I now understand throttle..
