Running 2 shopping carts on the same www. address

I am scared to try this, I'm afraid my current website will implode, so I am looking for feedback on this.

I have installed zencart so I can change over my yahoo site to it.

My website is rather large and I want to make sure it is fully functional before I take down my old site.

Can I have my new zencart pages shadow my current web pages?

For example, if my website has a page in yahoo called abc.html, can I make a zencart page called abc2.html? I am hoping that when my zencart site is ready, then I can just rename the cart pages and basically overlay my old website.

Or am I going to make a huge mess?

Probably best to set up Zen Cart in a sub-directory. Get it the way you want then move it up one level to be you main site pages. Make sure to delete any previous shop (yahoo?) pages before moving.

Sub directory? I was afraid of this How can I be so good at html, but not understand how to handle the website launching itself? Sigh........

I'll go out to my yahoo and see if I can find the data on sub directories.

I used yahoo sitebuilder for my current site. I am going to keep yahoo for my hosting. I am worried that I won't be able to use a lot of the custom html and scripting that I have, so I just need to make those important pages first to see if it will work in zencart.

I did several searches on installing/using zencart with yahoo as a server, but I found hundreds of threads that were not what I needed. Can you give me any hints on where I should look. I have zencart install, but I have absolutely no idea if it was done correctly.

If you can access your Hosting account with an FTP program, then create a directory called 'shop' for example and upload your Zen Cart files there.

Search the FAQ/tutorials for "installing" and you should find some helpful information.

If you are running a Yahoo store, I assume you are using Yahoo hosting? Before even attempting to use Zen Cart on your hosting I would suggest you search the forum for other users experiences on that host.

I'm not using the yahoo store, their fees are outragous. I use Mals Ecommerce cart right now, but used the yahoo sitebuilder to build the site and to host. But Mals is just to limited for what I really need to do with my store.

I have used yahoo for hosting for 5 years now and knock on wood, no problems. But I will go look for those threads to see if there are issues with their hosting and zen. Once I get my new site up with Zencart, then I might be brave enough to look for a new host.
