Understanding the confusing install Docs

Good day, we are trying to do a test using zen-cart and thought we were following the instructions correctly.

Unfortunately we feel the intructions do not do a correct job in informing the installing person how to properly do a correct set-up of the softwate.

I hope in the future someone with some common sense can do a better job of explaining the procedures in a more easy to understand and less confusing method.

During our initial steps we overlooked what appears to be a critical step. Not because we don't know how to read but because we followed the outline created by the author.

So my questions to the group are:

1. We uploaded all files and changed the config files as per the instructions. How does the information in those files get modified?

2. We followed the instructions as it was written and after all things listed were completed the ZC installer failed after we clicked the license agreement.

3. Can someone send us a detailed explanation about the proper way to install Zen Cart. The file size is very large compared to other carts we are comparing to.

I always advise people to not upload all files in one go. For various reasons file uploads can fail and if your FTP program does not tell what failed, you can have strange problems and not know why.

I suggest to first upload the 'admin' dir. and when finished then the 'includes' dir. When those two are done then upload all the rest.

As to the install pages and instructions on them, I cannot see where one would miss "a critical step". Perhaps detailing what went wrong for you would help others to provide good answers to your questions.

An even better way, IMO, if your hosting account offers a file manager, is to upload the Zencart zip file and extract it on the server.

The problem you're experiencing is probably due to a corrupted file.

I'm not sure what you're asking in 1).

The tutorial kobra referenced describes the process pretty well. It should probably be included in the package.
