Is it possible to share customer details across two websites?

Hi everyone,

Is it possible to share customer details (addresses, emails, tel's, order history, etc) across two websites? The two websites need to look very different. I need customers to be able to register on one website and be able to log in to either website to view their order history or to make further purchases.

I guess that means that I need to share the database somehow.

Any help would be much appreciated.

There is a "Multi-Site" module that may offer a solution, but unless you write a program (possibly run via a cron) that takes data out of one database and writes it to another, you will have to use the same database - and this has inherent challenges... The database carries a huge number of settings and switches that are specific to the site it serves. If you now try to run two (or more) sites of that database, all the settings applied to the main site will also apply to others using it.
