EZ-Pages link text not displaying

I am working on a site for someone in Italy. She used to use the Italian version of Zen Cart but she has now changed to using the regular version 1.3.8a (with security patch) with the Italian language pack (which is much easier to work with). I created a new template for her site and am having some issues with the EZPages header and footer display.

In the page's source code I can see the EZPages header links like this:

You can see in here that the links are present but there is no text for them to display. All of the pages have titles in the Admin->Tools->EZ-Pages though.

I am not a newbie with Zen Cart but the solution to this escapes me.
