Supposedly, this will work:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />
I haven't tried it, and if you want me to visit your site more than once, you won't either. I get cranky when website designers want to control every detail about how my browser sees their page.
Better, in my opinion, to correct the parts of your design that don't render properly in IE8 (and probably FF3).

Thanks for your reply, I have noted your point. Am trying to amend the code for the scrolling sideboxes but to no avail yet (lol!), but I've posted in the correct area of the forum for help with this issue.
