Made a configuration goof

Instead of making the configure files read only,

I made the configuration files read only.

Have now fixed the configure files to read only.

Are the configuration files ok as read only or do they need to be fixed to something else? If yes, what?

Usually directories are 755 ... files are 644 ...

If everything is working then things are fine - but normally 644 is sufficient.
