New links to new content in Information sidebox

I need to add some different links to the Information sidebox pointing them to new HTML content in the center column (for example, creating an "about us" page).

What's the best way to do this? I've read what I can find about this but I'm confused. Have found html_includes and sidebox directories but I'm unsure if I should add my own theme directories or indeed if there is a simpler way altogether to do this.

Any assistance much appreciated.
