Are there some simple ways to increase my zen carts performance?

I read somewhere if i turn off the who's online box this helps, is this correct? Is there somewhere in admin config also to turn it off completely?

I have a performance module installed and this helps.

I only have around 1000 products listed.

Are there anymore little tweeks i can do?
