Default Updating database using own code

    Hi,

I'm creating a simpler version of the ZC admin - just a handful of scripts so I/my client can perform a few routine tasks quicker. This is located outside the main ZC admin folder, and doesn't use any ZC code. However I've noticed that a couple of things don't seem to work properly until I've clicked any page in the real ZC admin after running my script., e.g - if I add a category to the Top level, it doesn't show up on the front end til I click an admin page (adding within other categories works OK). Or if I update a value in the config table, like the no. of featured products to display on the front page, this isn't reflected on the front page til I click an admin page. This also seems to be the case if I update using phpMyAdmin.

Is this a security thing? I'm not completely familiar with the ZC code, so would be grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

When you change admin configuration settings, those details are refreshed when you use the admin pages. However, if you update those settings from outside the admin area, the cached version of those settings is not updated until the cache expires ... typically 5-10 minutes.
