help question Easy Populate Image Url

I am using the free version of easy populate. I have looked thru this forum several times but can't seem to find a simple answer. My question is, how do I add images from my suppliers site? They have provided me with url of the picture image along with the picture name. They do not offer ftp, so how can I do this. I have over 6000 images and really dont want to have to save all these pics. Please help..

you can point to their url, but this might cause issues with ssl. have you asked your supplier if they can send you dvds with the images? we have had to do that with various suppliers, even though they don't offer. you have to firmly ask repeatedly, perhaps to different people/departments within the company. you are trying to sell their products and make them money after all.

you can apply external url's when editing the product, so i unless there's a variable in play here, i would imagine it's simply a case of...

    1) changing one manually
    2) running some sql to have a look at the raw data in the products_image column
    3) using this raw data as a 'template' for what you insert through easy populate

having said this, i just tried it (thought i could give you an answer half way through my post - hehehe famous last words) and couldn't get the external url working manually.

    no idea why, anybody else?

    cheers

Were you able to solve your problem? let me know I need to do the same thing

I believe we need to do some coding on the PHP files, as Zen-Cart does not support off site image URL.

Right now, Zen-Cart redirect the url to the image folder in our own website, is there anybody able to rewrite that script so it can redirect the image to an external URL instead of our own site?

I was in error in my previous post in this thread, I thought I remembered(incorrectly) that we had put links to remote images in our site but I was wrong. Sorry!

As Schoolboy suggested in a previous post, wget would be the best bet to grab images from urls so you can upload them to your own images directory. That way, you set up the program wget to automatically download the images for you. Wget has good instructions, and Schoolboy's instructions in this post http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118797 are easy to follow.

If it is still too difficult I would recommend putting in a request in the commercial help wanted forum to pay someone to get the images from your vendor's website and put them in a folder that you can then upload to your images directory via FTP. It would be worth a few $ to get the images and move forward with getting your site running and making money.

How very kind of you! I hope that Crystaldoll can get this worked out with your assistance! And perhaps, to benefit folks in the future you could lay out a little tutorial on what to do that hasn't been explained before. I never knew about wget before reading Schoolboy's post, there are so many useful tools that so many people here don't know about!

help question Re: Easy Populate Image Url

That is very nice of you to offer your assistance. I spent the wee hours of the morning reading & re-reading on how to use wget and I was able to get the pics downloaded all by myself! My problem was my default directory was throwing me off, just had to switch it over to the windows directory. Something so simple, but yet so complicated. I do very much so appreciate you offering me assistance. THANKS!
