Limiting purchases

Not really sure where to post this question. I'm selling training classes using zen cart. Since only one person can take one class, I'd like to limit the purchase of on product to one person. Can't seem to figure out how to make this work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

On each product, you have options for controlling how many people are allowed to purchase. see attached jpg for what your settings should be to make this work. Hope this has helped.

I think this works only for a particular session. The reason I believe this to be is that I have been able to log in and purchase the same product several times. With the settings that you have given me.

This is an important feature for me, as I am trying to avoid selling the same "seat" as it were, to the same person either as a mistake or maliciously. This would deny other students to purchase a seat in one of my classes. One product per user is what I'm looking for. I will test it again and see what happens.
