Hello, I am new to Zen Cart and I have not seen an answer to my question. If it has already been answered, I apologize in advance.


I am wondering if it is possible to place zen cart within a designated space in my site much the same way you would with the include function in php. I already have an existing site, which is much more than a store, and more like a social networking site that happens to have a store. It would not benefit me to change my site as it is massive and complex, therefore I would like to have a storefront page where I can 'include' or fit zen cart within a div of my own dimensions. I realize that this may require some heavy modification, but I am more concerned about whether it is possible. If anyone knows if this is possible and how to start the process, I would greatly appreciate it.

The problem with integrating Zen Cart with an existing site is that if someone is shopping and leaves Zen Cart to visit another part of your site, his/her session and cart contents can be lost. I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm sure someone will chime in to give you pointers on how to accomplish it. I'm just pointing out a possible pit fall.

You can always install Zen Cart in its own folder and then provide a link on the existing site to the Zen Cart portion.

Thanks for your feedback. The session problem doesn't seem like an insurmountable issue as we have worked extensively with sessions in establishing a working member area for this site. I am sure that this can be remedied. As for linking to it zen cart, i'd prefer to avoid this approach as it shows the user that the site is pieced together (and as it is a paid membership site, I would prefer to avoid having a disjointed site.) I do appreciate knowing that is an option though. Again thanks for your help and any further suggestions on how to make this possible would be greatly appreciated as well.
