Refreshing Images

Hi
Very new to all this.
We have set up a new site and I have now uploaded new images to replace the originals...same names exactly.
Problem is that the old images keep showing.
Is there some way to cause the site to refresh?
Apart from that site works well.
Large image on main page has updated ok, it is the product thumbnails and medium pics which have not updated.
I have tried it on a second computer which had never been to the site and it was the same.

mods installed?
I assume you refreshed the browser and checked from a different computer.

Version 1.3.8.
There are some mods, waiting to hear from co-collaborator what they are.
Yes, refreshed browser and tried on second computer.
I used WinSCP to ftp new copies of approx 25 images to relevant folders.
Large image has updated ok.

This problem only appears to be with IE (8) , a friend has checked with Firefox and all ok.
No mods to speak of. Settings all done via Admin.
