Product that isn't available yet

I've added a new product that won't be available until a week from now. But when I tested it in the store, I was able to add it to my cart anyway.

My client doesn't use the stock features but I set the ALLOW CHECKOUT value to "false" under CONFIG > STOCK in case that was causing it, but I can still add it to my cart.

Is there some other config setting I'm missing for this?
