Add shipping to Canada

Can someone please explain the easiest way for me to add the option of shipping to Canada. Currently, we only ship to the U.S. We are located in California and only charge sales tax to orders delivered in California. We are currently set up at $1.00 per item for shipping. However, we would like to expand our market and offer shipping to Canada. But I need to set it up so that anything that ships to Canada is slightly higher as it costs more to ship there. Basically, I need to know if I can set it up so that anyone who orders from the U.S. pays X amount for shipping, where any orders shipped to Canada pays Y amount.

P.S. Please be as clear as possible as I am not too savvy when it comes configuring admin settings.

If you want to also use Item Shipping for Canada but use a higher rate ... you can clone the Item Rate item shipping module for this ...

Do a search on:
clone item
clone flat

for examples on how cloning a shipping module can be done ...

Then build a Zone for Canada and add that to the new cloned shipping module ...

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it sounds to me like it entails a little more than I'm comfortable messing with. I was hoping it was something that I could just do in the admin section. Thanks anyway for your help.
