    Default Product Description Layout

ZC 1.3.8a. Not using Product Short Descriptions, but using *more* to split product description to first part that will show in prodcut listing, and second more detailed part that will show only on individual product info page.

Problem - *more* information varies in where it lands on the product info page. I want it to be BELOW the product image. When I did in ZC1.3.7 I simply put a <p> before the *more* and that did it. Somehow in upgrading it seems to have changed. I took one subcategory and did a <p><p><p> before each more, and that moved most but not all in that subcategory to where I want it. But it seems if the image is a wee bit different in size it has some effect in all this.

Is there a snippet of code I can put somewhere that make the *more* info go always below the product image, regardless if the image is a different size?

I want to achieve Product Image, on left side. Then product title, product info that precedes the *more*, and product price beginning flush and to the right of the top of the image, then the extra info underneath the image.

I can see where *more* appears in product_listing.php, tpl_document_general_info_display.php, and tpl_document)product_information_display.php....but I have no idea what to do with it!

    Thanks!

It turns out the *more* thing was a fix I got off the forums when I was on 1.3.7. I saved the changes (around line 146 in product_listing.php) when I upgraded to 1.3.8.a That feature allowed me to split my description, showing only the words that occured before the word *more* on the product list, but showing the entire description on the product information page.

It seems the change didn't get along with Product Short Descriptions and/or Column Layout Grid, with the result that my admin toggles for those mods didn't work.

My fix was to copy the code from fresh 1.3.8a to overwirte my previous changes, and to do a fresh install of Products Short Descriptions and Column Layout Grid.

That leaves me with a bit of a task in going trhough all my product descriptions and stripping out the word *more*, and I had to f*rt around quite a bit with my stylesheet and tlp_product_info_display.php to get my desired look, but all in all I think I'm ending with a better foundation and shouldn't have to dink around inserting <p>'s all over the place to get a consisent look.

You might want to explore the possibilities of using "float" in the styles of various parts of your product info page. Using float is a black art but with some experimentation you can get it to do what you want. Think of it as a way to force things to go right or left and to have (or not) a line wrap after or before them. It hurts my brain to think about it, so more than that I cannot offer. :-)

By the way, I'd like to buy a pair of socks. Are you in operation yet?

Thanks for the tips - I'll try experimenting with float and see what appears ;o)
