    Default Re: Unable to Install

    Hi Marie, I think there's some confusion going on here.

    I'll see if I can try to simplify things a bit to clear up any potential misunderstandings.

    Zen Cart is a program that runs on a web server (e.g. Apache) with PHP installed and it also needs access to a MySQL database where product/configuration information are stored.

    For your situation, you already have a Zen Cart store installed and running on a remote host. To manipulate the files on your remote store, you can use FileZilla or another FTP program to access it. From the look of your site, you already have a template installed.

    Now, it seems like you want to install and setup a Zen Cart store on your local PC. This approach should only be used for testing. Using this approach, you will need to install some server software (i.e. PHP/MySQL/Apache) before you can install Zen Cart. There is nothing to FTP and you only need to drag-drop files between folders in this case as all the files are on your PC.

    So now the question is, what do you want to do? Do you want to:

    • re-install a Zen Cart store on your remote host which is already running?
    • install a new Zen Cart store on your remote host for testing?
    • install a Zen Cart store on your local PC for testing?

    Furthermore, what are you trying to achieve with the new/current Zen Cart installation?

    • install or try out a new template or adjust the current template?
    • adjust the current store settings on your remote store?

    Thank you for clearing that up. I thought I would need to install something. I have FileZilla and that's it. I just have all the Zencart files uploading into that. I dunno what to do after.

    I would like to keep the current store and just change the template and adjust the current settings.

    When it comes to this kind of thing I have no idea what I'm doing. I've only used html to make regular websites with..nothing like this.

    I would like to keep the current store and just change the template and adjust the current settings.
    From a template install instructions:
    Code:
    1. Install the new template
    ==========================

    The best and easiest way to install this template is to use your ftp client, and drag/transfer the includes folder to your ZenCart install. As all of the files are structured like ZenCart and are contained in their own folders, you can determine where they belong and add them to the correct areas.

    If you want to rename the directory, you go right ahead. But be sure to adjust the template_info.php file accordingly..

    2. Select the Template
    ======================

    Log in to Admin and from the "Tools" menu select "Template Selection"
    You should see "Comstock" listed as one of the installed templates in the box on the right hand side of your screen.
    Click on the edit button.
    Choose Comstock from the drop down menu that appears
    Click update

    3. Turn on Layout Boxes
    =======================

    New templates install with all the layout boxes turned off so from the "Tools" menu select "Layout Boxes Controller" and at the bottom select reset. Now you can turn on/off as many or few as you wish.
    So if you have selected a template - Review the install or readme file - - insure that you know where the files for it are on your local and startup your FTP program -
    navigate on the local panel to where the template files are
    navigate on the server panel to where the ZenCart install is

    Perform the install instructions for your template
