    Default Installation Firefox Issue

    Hi

I am installing Zen Cart on a Linux based system (Ubuntu), when I select the option to save database settings, Firefox throws a dialog window telling me 'You have chosen to open Index.php' and what would I like Firefox to do.

Has anyone else had this error message and, if so, whats the solution?

    Thanks in advance

    Regards

    Melks

Zen Cart needs to be installed on a server of some kind to work. It is coded largely in PHP which is a server side language.

You can run Zen on a linux/ubuntu machine (I do!) but you need to either have installed Ubuntu server or add a testing server. The server i use is XAMPP.

There is a recent post about how to get that.

Without one of those solutions firefox will always give you that message when you try and open a .php file.

    Hi Nick

I can confirm that xampp is installed and all services are running.

OK. Sorry to have told you stuff that you obviously already know

In that case you need to access the file from the local server rather than just trying to open it.

In the link in the other post there is a section, I think, about how to add a folder to the local server.

Maybe I am telling you stuff that you already know again. But what happens if you type http://localhost/ into your browser? Do you get an XAMPP splash screen?

    Hi

Dont worry about telling me things I may already know - I have been banging my head against this for the best part of a day.

If I go to localhost, I get the xampp banner displayed in the browser so I dont think its index.php files in general.

OK that is good news. Just checking that the XAMPP install was playing the game.

The folder that XAMPP is treating as your localserver is at:

    opt/lammp/htdocs/

So, click on 'places' in the top menu bar. Select 'computer' and then opt/lampp/htdocs/

That will open a folder that should have in it the following:
    1. an xampp folder
    2. an xampp favicon
    3. an index.php file

Let me know that that is what you have
