I have resolved this and am only listing it in case someone gets the same error.
My Zen-Cart version is 1.3.7
After setting up a product with quantity discounts I received a fatal error in line 177 of query_factory.php file when adding to cart. After changing the:
Discount Qty Applies to Mixed Attributes Yes No to NO in the quantity setup the error went away.

I then got an error when confirming the order, I resolved this by changing in the product:
Product Qty Min/Unit Mix: Yes No to NO
