help question Custom SEO URL for category - how?

    Hello

Apologies for creating a new post on a highly debated topic, but ...

Is it possible to define the actual URL for a category or product page with either Ceon URI Mapping or Simple SEO URL?

Have installed and working, just not sure what I am missing?

By default, if I have the follow for category:

    'Gourmet Coffee Beans'

    URL comes out as:

    'gourmet-coffee-beans-x-1'

Nice, but I would like to shorten it if possible?

I'm only looking at these 2 for now, have tried Ultimate SEO, but concerned about support, etc.

Yes I have read the various posts about SSU vs Ceon, both are great IMO, but for some reason cannot wrap the nogen around which one to go with.

New site, latest version on ZC, patches, etc ...

    Thank you kindly!!!

Either one of the 2 will do what you want, and each one also allows you to customize each url.

The main difference for now: Ceon's allows you to convert case by case, so you can have 1 product using dynamic link, another using static link etc.

SSU doesnt allow this, all links are converted when the module is turned on, this is good for store with thousand of products and you dont want to go edit case by case.
I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

    yellow1912,

Great response and thanks!!! Making sense.

We're starting the store off slowly, releasing 15 products at a time.

The team I am working with is big on SEO and will want to control the product/category URL name - Ceon might have to be the route here.

You do bring up a good point with each product having a dynamic & static link.

Our concern would be duplicate content issues, but ...

If we're not linking to the dynamic link, big G should not be able to find them?!?

With either one you should not have that issue, though for linked products you will need to check how you can implement canonical link tag. Either module will give you the ability to customize the name. Ceon's is more like Wordpress's while SSU takes a different approach and let you customize the name only when you want to (the deep root of this reason is that I, the author of the mod, dont want to hack into the core code of the admin)

And that brings up another concern as well

I personally do not want to touch the core code as well and would prefer to work with your mod.

Believe it or not, I already have your mod installed and running fine, but ... not sure how, I am missing how to change the actual category name.

If there is online documentation or something to look at, greatly appreciated.

Really do appreciate the help so far.

    http://wiki.rubikintegration.com/zen...ers/link_alias

Go to Extras->ssu manager-> link alias manager

Well, the nice thing here is that you are not limited to products and category names, you can create alias for almost anything, manufacturer, page name, ezpage name, whatever. The not nice thing is obviously you need to use the search feature if you have too many aliases.
