    help question Unable to create categories

    I just installed 1.3.8a brand new along with the most recent security patch for a customer and logged into the (renamed) admin to start setting things up. I went to create a new category and filled in everything and submitted, but it failed to create a category. I even checked the MySQL database through phpMyAdmin and no new category is listed. Then I created a product to see how that would work, and as soon as the product was added, the "New Category" button disappeared from the Categories/Products page. It's also giving me this warning:

    WARNING: You have Products in the Top Level Category. This will cause pricing to not work properly in the Catalog. Products found: 1

    Since I'm unable to create any other categories though, I have no way to fix this. I've looked through the FAQs already and found one thread suggesting reloading the html_output.php file from the security patch, which I tried to no avail, so any help would be appreciated. This is my first time using Zen Cart, but this client has several more stores to set up if I can get the first one working.

    You will have to delete the product and then create a catgeory into which to put it.

    OK, I did that and it worked this time, but that's what I did originally, so why didn't it work the first time? I did two things different in that I didn't upload an image the first time and I think I set the sort order to 1, and this time I set it to zero. Would an incorrect sort order cause the category not to add?
