How do I uninstall SQL files that were uploaded through the Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patches?
I uploaded the Column Grid Layout and think that it may have something to do with the current Product Listing problem Im having.
I would also like to know how to uninstall SQL files that have been uploaded through the "Install SQL Patches" section of the admin control panel.
So can someone on this forum please let the both of us know how we can do this?
As I am thinking of installing the "captchanumbersubjectcomboinone_1-0"mod which requires you to install a SQL Patch. But before I install this mod I would like to know how to uninstall the SQL Patch for it in case I decide to uninstall this mod and remove all traces of it.
So any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks..
Some mods include SQL uninstallers, but most don't. In the latter case, you're going to have to know enough about MySQL to 'undo' what the installer did, or just leave the changes there. Once you've removed the files from the mod, the DB stuff won't generally affect your cart.
For future reference... the best way to uninstall a SQL file is to be sure you backup your database prior to making any changes. Then if the new update messes up, you simply restore the database.
There is a backup module created by DrByte where you can backup and restore your database from your ZC admin panel. You can find it here
I never had much luck backing up and especially restoring a backup from PHPMyAdmin or even in cpanel. So I am very happy that DrByte created this addon. Thanks!
Thank you to everyone who replied. I really appreciate your help!
I had a look at the database backup program by DrByte. But unfortuantly I cannot use that on my webhosting account. As I spoke to my hosting provider and they told me that a couple of the commands that the plugin uses are not allowed to be run on my account.
So I guess the only real safe way of removing these SQL files, is to restore a previous backup of the database prior to the installation of the SQL file then.
Thanks once again for clearing this up.
I tend to look at what the initial sql file has done to the database. If it has created a column then I tend to drop that column. If the sql file created a table I simply drop the table. To leave all the unneeded tables and fields it does slow the program down eventually which is why I remove them.
Basically I try to reverse what the initial file has done. But as every one will tell you you need to back up your database before you do anything to it. No matter what your experience or how little a change.
When the going gets tough, the tough take a coffee break.
