Split Categories Box - what does it do?

I was going through all the settings in Admin > Configuration > Layout Settings on a store with demo products installed. The Split Categories Box (Split the categories box display by product type) doesn't seem to have any effect whether it's on True or False.

The demo products include Music type products but the Categories Box includes all product types regardless of the settings.

What am I missing?

It simply adds a divider between the special, new, featured and all products link and categories.

Melanie, I think you're referring to the Categories Separator between links status. This puts a line between the Categories links and the specials, new, featured & all links, like you mentioned.

The Split Categories Box says that the setting will split the categories box display by product type.

I'm not sure that it works?
