Order problem, downloads were charged for shipping!

I just received an order yesterday that is different from all my other orders in the past. The only difference I can see when I look at the list of orders, is this one says "paypal item" under Payment Shipping, when all other paid orders say "paypal free".

The order was messed up. The customer only purchased a dollar product, but was charged 3.50 for it.

Copying the order and highlighting the problem. I haven't had this happen before, and do not want it to happen again! If you have any idea why this happened, and what I can do to prevent it, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

OK I figured it out, thanks to my posts subject change (thanks!).
So I should always have freebies:

Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping Address
Always Free Shipping: Yes, Always Free Shipping

correct?

Not quite ...

If you just want to have Free Shipping on these Freebies then you should have the Always Free Shipping but not the Virtual Product ...

Virtual Products do not ship ...

You will also want to have the Free Shipping freeshipper shipping module installed for when this is the only Product in the order and to have the Zen Cart Free Charger freecharger payment module installed so that the customer can complete the checkout ...
