I am considering ZenCart. I need to know if it will do what I need it to do.

So, before I get ZenCart, I have a few questions I need to have answered. I'd appreciate any help on the topic.

1.) Is it free? Completely?

2.) Does it process Credit Cards without a lot of setup? (I understand it goes through PayPal?)

3.) Can I set up ZenCart so that many users can have access to their own categories (and not affect other categories)?

4.) Can I have multiple subcategories?

2. It uses a wide variety of payment options. Paypal is one of them. It is pretty easy to set up various payment modules.

3. I do not think so - but I may be wrong.

In my recent experiences with zen cart, i have found and realised pretty much anything is possible to achieve. Some non standard ideas just need a bit of thinking, and some extra coding .....but most things can be achieved.

Also chances are if you want something abit bespoke and non standard, you can almost guarantee someone else has done aswel, Maybe some1 has already done what you are after?

Well, I am pretty sure I have read a few posts about this very issue but for the life of me I can't find them. If my memory serves me correctly there were not any easy solutions but once again won't commit to that - I might be wrong.

However, Zen Cart is a fantastically versitile system so do not write it off. And have a good search for those posts that I can't find!

Thoughts:

There is a mod called admin profiles that allows you to not show elements of the admin panel to various admin users. It is great and lets you 'protect' parts of the admin from some meddling users!

Unfortunately, as it stands you either let a user see all the categories or none of them. So, it will be useful to you but not the whole solution.

As I think about it displaying or not displaying certain categories dependent on the user's login is not such a huge amount of programming. However, these things escalate rapidly. The concept is not too complicated but the implementation, particularly if you want a pretty admin area, may be larger than expected.

Having said that I am sure that someone would be able to build you this facility. You could post the question on the 'professional help wanted' part of this forum. Of course, it is professional help, so that would make the answer to your initial question one, 'no'.
