Can I delete a top level category and convert/promote it's subcategory to a top level category, or must I create a new category and add all of it's products?
Can I delete a top level category and convert/promote it's subcategory to a top level category, or must I create a new category and add all of it's products?
1) Create a new category.
2) Move the products from the subcategory to the new category (they can have the same name).
3) Delete the unnecesary categories
OR
1) Temporarily move the products from the current subcategory to another category.
2) delete the subcategory
3) rename the top category if necessary
4) move the products back into the category

I have over 200 products to move from a sub-cat to a parent-cat. Doing the above do you mean I would have to individually move every product?
Actually, I made it more complicated than necessary. You can use the move function (white M in a purple circle) to move the subcategory and all its products.

When you click the (m) to move the subcategory, you will see a select box titled "Move Yoursubcat to:"
In that box, select "Top" (at the top of the list) and your subcat will go into Top and become a top category.
